“There
are only two feelings. Love and fear. There are only two languages. Love
and fear.
There are only two activities. Love and fear. There are only two
motives, two procedures,
two frameworks,
two results. Love and fear.
Love
and fear."

Grantly Dick- Read –
‘Childbirth Without Fear’
Dick- Read was a British Obstetrician and commonly known ‘father ‘of the
natural childbirth movement, who understood that parent’s beliefs
(around birthing and life) significantly influenced their experience of
childbirth. He understood that healthy mothers, with an inner belief
that childbirth is a natural and calm process, and those who birthed
without fear, tended to birth calmly and ‘without drama’.
Given his experience in cross cultural environments, Dick-Read
understood that beliefs were both culturally acquired and also learned.
Culture determines the wider context in which belief of childbirth is
advertised and played out. Learned beliefs and behaviors/reactions,
developed predominantly during the childhood years, are integrated with
cultural beliefs and vice versa, creating a personal and inner belief
about birth.
Calmbirth® builds on the important work of Dick-Read to provide a practical set of skills to support your intention around childbirth and for life.

how our behaviours, attitudes and beliefs, program the lives of our
children (Bruce Lipton, MD)
Conscious parenting is one of the most wonderful skills to learn. I believe that it is THE most important skill to learn towards becoming healthy parents. It is a most effective way of assisting you to make real choices about parenting in a confident, loving and consistent way.
Conscious parenting is not a guide book or ‘how to’ of parenting. There are already quite number of quality books and resources on this topic.
Conscious parenting teaches you how to raise healthy children by being
healthy parents.
Secondly, it builds and explores on the understanding that children
learn from you, their parents, from the very beginning of life.
Conscious parenting workshops build on the understanding that:
How you parent is largely dependent on how you were parented
Your children will listen, learn, copy and adapt to behaviours and beliefs about the world and themselves from the very beginning of life, including pregnancy. Although they look very small and unknowing, cuddly and cute... these gorgeous little people are already very clever at understanding the world through those closest to them – you!
At the subconscious level (habit) your rules around parenting, and parenting behaviour, was largely formed when you were aged between 1 and 7
It is widely understood that in the day-to-day (and particularly during stress) parents’ actions don’t always align with their parenting (personal) intentions (how they ‘really want’ to parent)
Most often, parents raise children with the intention of creating loved, nurtured, stable and intelligent children. As parents we may set out to be calm, consistent, nurturing, loving, solid, patient, firm and kind. Very simply, conscious parenting is about getting the understanding that YOU need in order for you to carry out your intention as a parent – whatever that looks like for you.
